South Florida has some of the toughest ants in the country, and many of them are invasive species with many queens. The wrong spray can make some of them split into more colonies, so identifying them correctly comes first. Call or text anytime: 833-845-9284.

Ants through the South Florida year

Ants never really go away here, but rain and drought move them around. When the rainy season soaks the ground, fire ants rebuild their mounds after every storm, and during a flood whole colonies float together in rafts until they reach dry ground (see floating fire ants). In dry spells, ghost ants and rover ants come inside looking for water at sinks, tubs and plant saucers. White-footed ants nest in palms and landscaping all year and trail along rooflines, wires and window frames into the house. Big-headed ants push little piles of sand out between pavers and along pool decks; our guide to ants in pavers and pool decks shows what that looks like. In spring and summer, many species send out winged swarmers after rain, and those are often mistaken for termites. If ants keep showing up in outlets or the A/C unit, read ants in outlets and A/C units.

What we do and when to call

Ant control starts with a FREE inspection to identify the ant and follow the trails back toward the nest. We target the colony, not just the trail you can see, with a bait-first approach indoors and treatment around the outside of the home. Fire ant mounds in the yard are treated one by one. Call when trails keep coming back after you've wiped them up, when fire ants mound near play areas or the pool, when carpenter ants show up inside at night, or when ants pile into electrical boxes. Our ants keep coming back after spraying guide explains why store-bought spray often makes things worse.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do ants come back after I spray?
Spray kills the ants you can see, but the queens and the nest are somewhere else. Several South Florida ants, like ghost ants and white-footed ants, have many queens, and spraying can make a colony split into new ones. Treating the colony works better than chasing the trail.
Are flying ants termites?
No, but the two are easy to confuse. Flying ants have elbowed antennae, a pinched waist and front wings longer than the hind wings. Termite swarmers have straight antennae, a thick waist and wings of equal length. Our termite identification guide shows the difference.
Do you treat fire ants in the yard?
Yes. We treat fire ant mounds in the yard around your home, one by one, and check sidewalk edges and play areas where new mounds tend to show up after rain.
