Pest Control in Miami Lakes, FL for Lakeside Homes and Townhomes
Family-run, licensed and insured pest control in South Florida.
$50 OFF your first service + FREE inspectionNew customers · No code needed · No expirationMiami Lakes is a planned community in northwest Miami-Dade, built around a network of man-made lakes, with single-family homes, townhomes and condos and a walkable Main Street. Lake Patricia, the first neighborhood, opened in the early 1960s, and the town grew outward from there, one lake-ringed neighborhood at a time.
Lakeside lots and well-watered landscaping keep ants, spiders and palmetto bugs close to the house, and mature trees give roof rats a path onto the roof. Townhomes and condos with shared walls can pass roaches and ants between units. Pro-Spray is a family-run, Licensed & Insured South Florida company. We tailor each visit to the home, keep kids and pets in mind and speak English and Spanish. Call or text 833-845-9284 for a FREE inspection and $50 off your first service.
Lakefront lots
In Miami Lakes, it's common for the backyard to slope right down to a lake. The strip between the water and the patio, usually thick with shrubs, palms and ground cover, is where pests concentrate. Mosquitoes rest in the shady shrubs during the day. Fire ants build mounds in the soft soil along the bank. Spiders build webs on screens and pool cages to catch insects drawn to porch lights. And rats travel along the bank at night, using the vegetation for cover.
We put extra focus on the side of the home facing the water. We treat the foundation, patio edges, pool cage frame and the shaded yard areas closest to the house, and we check the gaps where pipes, wires and AC lines enter the walls on that side.
The original neighborhoods
The older sections of Miami Lakes, starting with Lake Patricia, have homes that are now sixty years old or close to it. Mature oaks and palms shade the streets, and many homes have been expanded and remodeled over the years. Older roofs, soffits and attic vents can have gaps, and additions sometimes leave seams where the old and new walls meet. Big trees over the roof are a roof rat's easiest route inside. During the FREE inspection we look closely at the roofline, the attic and those seams. If you hear scratching at night, note where it seems to come from and what time, because that tells us a lot about where they're getting in. Droppings in the garage near the water heater or along the top of a shelf are another common clue.
Townhomes and condos
Miami Lakes has plenty of townhome and condo communities. Shared walls and shared plumbing mean German cockroaches and ants can move from one unit to the next, and attics in a row of townhomes can connect if the firewalls have gaps. We treat townhomes and condos inside and out, with attention to the shared walls, the plumbing behind kitchens and bathrooms and the attic if we can reach it. If neighbors are having the same problem, treating together works better, and we're happy to talk with your association.
Palmetto bugs and irrigation
Well-watered landscaping is part of what makes Miami Lakes so green, and it also keeps mulch beds and the soil along the foundation damp. That's exactly what palmetto bugs want. They live in mulch, leaf litter, tree holes and storm drains and come inside through garage doors, gaps under doors and floor drains. Adjust sprinkler heads so they don't soak the walls, pull mulch a few inches back from the foundation and replace worn door sweeps. We treat the exterior, the entry points and the inside spots where they appear.
Ants in lush landscaping
White-footed ants are the most common ant call in Miami Lakes. They build huge colonies in palms, hedges and mulch and trail inside along wires and window frames. Big-headed ants push sand up between patio pavers. Fire ants mound up along lake banks, sidewalks and sunny lawns. And in some parts of Miami-Dade, the tiny little fire ant, which has been in Miami since the 1920s, nests in trees and potted plants and stings anyone who brushes against the foliage. We use baits that ants carry back to the colony, treat fire ant mounds around the home one by one and treat the yard areas around the house where ants are nesting. We don't treat lawns or plants.
Mosquito control in Miami Lakes
With lakes behind so many homes, mosquitoes rest in the shrubs between the water and your patio. Inside the yard, they breed in bromeliads, planters, toys, gutters and anything that holds rainwater. The Asian tiger mosquito bites during the day, and the southern house mosquito takes over at night. Our monthly service uses a backpack fogger to treat the shaded resting spots, and we put larvicide in standing water that can't be dumped. The schedule is customizable, and we offer one-time event sprays before a birthday, a quinceañera or a backyard party. See mosquito control.
Main Street and the town center
Main Street's restaurants, cafés and shops bring the usual commercial pests: roaches drawn to grease and food waste, rodents around dumpsters and flies around outdoor dining. Homes and townhomes near the commercial areas sometimes see the overflow. For businesses, our commercial pest control service handles kitchens, storage rooms and dumpster areas on a schedule that fits your hours.
Spiders on screens and pool cages
Lakefront homes with screened pool enclosures and outdoor lights attract insects at night, which attract spiders. Most of what you'll see are harmless orb weavers and house spiders. Brown widows are common under patio furniture, inside outdoor toys and around pool equipment, and their spiky round egg sacs are easy to spot once you know what to look for. We remove webs within reach and treat the areas where spiders hide.
Wasps under eaves and in shutters
Paper wasps build open, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves, inside rolled-up hurricane shutters and along pool cage framing. They usually leave people alone unless the nest is disturbed, which tends to happen when someone closes the shutters before a storm. We treat and remove wasp nests around the home.
Fleas and pets
Dogs walking the lake paths and parks can bring cat fleas home, and raccoons and opossums that travel along the lake banks leave flea eggs where they rest. Fleas develop in carpets, pet beds and shady corners of the yard. We treat inside the home and the shaded yard areas where fleas develop, and your pets need a vet-approved flea product at the same time.
Norway rats in the lake banks
Roof rats aren't the only rodent around the lakes. Norway rats are heavier, ground-dwelling rats that dig burrows in soft soil, and lake banks, the edges of patios and the space under sheds suit them well. Look for holes about two to four inches wide with smooth, packed edges, often with fresh dirt fanned out in front, and runways worn through the grass. They come to fallen fruit, bird seed, pet food and garbage cans. We treat burrows and set tamper-resistant stations near activity, placed out of reach of kids and pets, and we look for the food source keeping them around.
Pantry pests in the kitchen
Sometimes the bugs in the kitchen aren't roaches or ants. Small brown beetles in the flour, spices or pet food are usually stored product pests like the cigarette beetle or the red flour beetle. They arrive in packages from the store and spread to everything nearby. The fix is mostly cleanup: find the infested package, throw it out, vacuum the shelves and store dry goods in sealed containers. If they keep coming back, we'll help track down the source.
Hurricane shutters and storm prep
Many Miami Lakes homes have accordion or roll-down shutters that stay open most of the year. Wasps, spiders and the occasional lizard move into the folds, and roaches hide in the tracks. Before storm season, open and close your shutters once to shake things out and spot nests while it's calm and dry, instead of the day before a storm.
After storms
Heavy summer storms can raise lake levels and soak low yards. Fire ants float in stinging clumps, palmetto bugs come up from flooded drains, rats move into garages and attics, and mosquitoes hatch about a week later. Our guides to floating fire ants after flooding and rainy-season mosquitoes explain what to watch for.
HOA common areas
Many Miami Lakes neighborhoods and townhome communities have HOAs that manage common areas around the lakes, clubhouses and pools. If your association wants to talk about mosquito control in common areas, see our HOA mosquito control page. We can provide certificates of insurance when a community asks for them. Board members can call or text us to set up a walk-through.
Hablamos español
Many Miami Lakes families speak Spanish at home, and so do we. We can explain the inspection, the treatment and what to do between visits in English or Spanish, whichever you prefer. Visit our Spanish page.
