Golden Beach Pest Control for Oceanfront and Waterway Estates
Family-run, licensed and insured pest control in South Florida.
$50 OFF your first service + FREE inspectionNew customers · No code needed · No expirationGolden Beach is the northernmost town on Miami-Dade's barrier island, a quiet stretch along A1A between the ocean and the Intracoastal. It's a residential town of single-family estate homes only, without condominium towers or hotels. Homes on the east side of A1A face the beach along Ocean Boulevard, and homes on the west side sit along the canals and the Intracoastal Waterway, many with private docks.
Large homes, big landscaped lots, pools, cabanas, guest houses and boats all mean more surface area and more places for pests to find a foothold. Salt air, sand, sea grape hedges and tall palms add their own challenges. Pro-Spray Pest Control is a family-run, licensed and insured company serving Golden Beach homeowners and property managers. Call or Text 833-845-9284 for a FREE inspection and $50 off your first service.
Estate homes need a wider inspection
A Golden Beach property often includes the main house, a pool and cabana, a summer kitchen, a garage, equipment rooms, a guest house and a dock. Each of those structures has its own entry points and its own pest risks. A pool equipment room, for example, is warm, dark and humid, which is ideal for palmetto bugs and spiders. An outdoor kitchen attracts ants and flies. A detached garage can hide rodents for weeks before anyone notices.
Our inspection covers every structure on the property, not just the main house. We map where pests are getting in and tell you which areas need regular attention so nothing is overlooked between visits.
Oceanfront homes on the east side of A1A
Homes facing the beach deal with wind, salt spray and sand. Dune vegetation and sea grape hedges along the ocean side are home to ghost crabs, lizards and plenty of insects, and they make great cover for rodents and roaches. Salt air also wears down screens, door sweeps and weatherstripping faster than inland, so gaps open up sooner.
On oceanfront homes we check the beach-facing doors, the screened areas and the sand that builds up along thresholds. Replacing worn sweeps and screens more often is part of keeping pests out when you live this close to the sand.
Waterway homes on the west side
West of A1A, homes along the canals and the Intracoastal face a calmer, more sheltered shoreline. Seawalls, docks, boat lifts and mangrove edges hold moisture and shelter pests. No-see-ums, the tiny biting gnats that come out at dawn and dusk, breed in wet sand and mud along these shorelines and pass right through regular screens. Mosquitoes rest in the shaded landscaping close to the water.
We treat the resting areas along the waterside of the property and around docks and patios. A ceiling fan or outdoor fan on a lanai helps more than most people expect, because no-see-ums are weak fliers.
Roof rats in royal palms and hedges
Tall palms, ficus hedges and dense tropical landscaping are part of the look of Golden Beach, and they're also exactly where roof rats like to live. These rats nest high in palm skirts and dense hedges, travel along branches, wires and fences, and enter homes through gaps at the roofline, attic vents, and openings around AC lines and pool equipment.
Our rodent control starts with a detailed inspection of the roofline and structures. We use traps and tamper-resistant bait stations placed out of reach of children and pets, seal entry points and follow up until activity stops. Keeping palms trimmed and hedges away from the roofline makes a big difference.
Ants in a coastal landscape
Coastal homes in South Florida see a lot of ants. The ghost ant, tiny and pale, nests in potted plants, wall voids and under pavers and trails into kitchens and bathrooms. White-footed ants nest in palms and landscaping and form long trails along walls. The Caribbean crazy ant moves fast and erratically and can build up huge numbers around pool decks and patios.
Spraying the trail you see just splits the colony. We use baits inside so workers carry the treatment back to the colony, and we treat ant nests in the yard around the home and any fire ant mounds. We don't treat lawns, plants or shrubs.
Pool decks, cabanas and summer kitchens
Outdoor living spaces are central to life in Golden Beach, and they attract pests. Summer kitchens draw ants and flies. Cabana bathrooms and pool equipment rooms are humid and dark, a favorite of palmetto bugs and spiders. Patio lights at night draw insects, and spiders follow. We treat the perimeter of outdoor structures, under counters and around drains, and we can time treatments ahead of a gathering by the pool.
Mosquito control for outdoor living
Mosquitoes breed in more places than people realize on a large property: bromeliads, decorative urns, fountains that sit off, boat covers, pool covers, drains and gutters. The Asian tiger mosquito breeds in tiny amounts of water and bites in the daytime, which makes it the main nuisance around pools and patios.
Our mosquito control is a monthly service, and you can customize the schedule. A technician uses a backpack fogger to treat the dense landscaping where mosquitoes rest, applies larvicide to water that can't be dumped, and walks the property with you to point out breeding sites. Before a party or event, we can do an event spray.
Palmetto bugs and drains
The American cockroach, or palmetto bug, lives outdoors in palms, mulch, storm drains and sewer lines. In large homes with many bathrooms, guest rooms that sit unused for weeks and outdoor showers, drains that dry out let them come right up. Run water in unused drains every week or two, and keep drain covers in place. We treat the exterior, entry points and drains.
Before and after time away
Many Golden Beach homeowners travel, and some homes sit closed for weeks or months at a time. A quiet house lets pests settle in undisturbed: roaches come up through dry drains, rodents explore the garage and spiders build in corners. Before you leave, have a scheduled service done if one is coming due, set drain covers, clear the refrigerator and pantry of open food, and ask whoever checks the house to run the faucets now and then. When you return, call us if you notice anything new.
Spiders, wasps and orb weavers
The big webs you see between palms and across walkways in late summer usually belong to the golden silk orb weaver, a large spider that's harmless to people. The brown widow is the one to watch, often found under outdoor furniture, in pool equipment areas and in mailboxes. Paper wasps build nests under eaves, in shutters and around lanai frames. We treat spider hiding spots and remove wasp nests around the home.
Pantries and large kitchens
Big kitchens with walk-in pantries store a lot of dry goods, and items that sit for months are where pantry pests start. The sawtoothed grain beetle and other small beetles get into flour, cereal, nuts, spices and pet food. Use airtight containers, rotate older items forward and check for tiny beetles or webbing before you cook.
Flies around kitchens and trash areas
Big outdoor kitchens and trash enclosures can attract house flies and fruit flies, especially after parties and in the summer heat. Keep trash enclosures clean, rinse cans regularly and don't leave fruit or drinks out on the patio. We can treat around trash areas and outdoor kitchens.
Boats and docks
A boat at the dock brings its own pest risks. Boat covers collect rainwater that breeds mosquitoes, and stored cushions, life jackets and fishing gear hide spiders and roaches. Rats will also explore boats tied to seawalls. Keep covers tight so water runs off, store cushions dry and off the ground, and check gear before bringing it inside.
Renovations and construction next door
Remodeling and rebuilding are common on estate lots. When a nearby house is torn down or a yard is dug up, the rats, roaches and ants that lived there go looking for a new home, and the closest one is often yours. If work starts next door, it's a good time to check your roofline, door sweeps and screens, and to make sure your exterior treatment is current. Construction on your own property can also open walls and roofs, so we recommend an inspection once the work wraps up.
Moisture pests: springtails, pillbugs and booklice
Irrigated landscaping, sprinkler overspray and shaded walls keep the ground around many homes damp. That moisture brings springtails and pillbugs and sowbugs up against the foundation and sometimes under doors onto tile floors. Inside, closed rooms with high humidity can grow mold that feeds booklice. Adjusting sprinkler heads away from walls, pulling mulch back and running the AC or a dehumidifier in closed rooms solves much of this. We treat the perimeter where these pests gather.
Guests, travel and bed bugs
Homes that host a lot of guests, and homeowners who travel often, have more chances to bring home bed bugs in luggage. When you get back from a trip, unpack in a hard-floored room, run travel clothes through a hot dryer and check suitcase seams. If you find small dark spots on mattress seams or wake up with bites in a line, our bed bug treatment is a targeted treatment with follow-up visits.
Storm season on the barrier island
Golden Beach sits right on the ocean, and tropical storms bring heavy rain, wind and sometimes flooding. After a storm, rodents look for dry shelter in garages and attics, fire ants float and settle on high ground, and mosquitoes hatch in standing water within a week. Debris piles also make temporary homes for pests. See our guides to post-flood pest control and rodents after a hurricane.
Working with property managers
Many Golden Beach homes are cared for by property managers, house managers or caretakers. We're happy to coordinate service with whoever handles the property, keep track of what we find each visit and share notes on any conditions that need attention, like a broken screen or a new rodent entry point.
Fleas and pets
Dogs walking on grass and along the beach-side landscaping can pick up cat fleas, and wildlife like raccoons that travel along the hedges leave fleas behind in shaded spots. We treat the inside of the home and the outdoor resting areas. Each pet also needs a flea product from your vet that same week.
