Davie isn't like the rest of Broward, and its pest problems aren't either. Between the horse trails, big lots, barns and open land, Davie homeowners need a pest company that knows the difference between a quarter-acre yard and a few acres with paddocks. You'll find ranch properties along Orange Drive and the equestrian trails, neighborhoods like Imagination Farms and Long Lake Ranches, wooded parks like Tree Tops Park and Pine Island Ridge, and plenty of regular subdivisions, townhomes and student apartments near the college campuses.

Pro-Spray is a family-run, licensed and insured company, and we build custom treatment plans for the way you live in Davie. Call or text 833-845-9284 for a FREE inspection. New customers get $50 off their first service, with no code and no expiration.

Horse properties and barns

On a horse property, the barn is usually where pest problems start. Feed, hay, grain spills, manure, water troughs and tack rooms attract rodents, flies, roaches and spiders, and from the barn, rats and mice work their way to the garage and the house.

We treat barns and outbuildings with your animals' safety first. We avoid feed rooms, and we never spray animals directly. We focus on the structure itself: walls, rafters, the outside of stalls when they're empty, wash racks, tack rooms, storage areas and the perimeter of the building. Before we start, we'll ask where your horses are, where feed and water are kept and how the property is laid out, and we'll tell you exactly what we're applying, where, and how long to keep animals away from treated areas.

Barn fly control

Flies are the most common barn complaint in Davie. House flies and stable flies breed in manure, wet bedding, spilled feed and damp hay, and in summer heat they can go from egg to adult in about a week to ten days. That's why sanitation matters as much as any treatment. Manure removal on a regular schedule, keeping bedding dry and cleaning up spilled feed all cut down breeding.

For barn fly control, we treat the resting surfaces flies use, like walls, rafters and the outside of the barn in shady spots, while staying out of feed rooms and away from animals. We'll also point out breeding spots around the property, like a manure pile that stays wet or a low spot near the water trough. Stable flies bite horses and people, so knocking down the resting population makes a noticeable difference.

Rodent control on horse properties

Feed, grain and hay are easy meals for rodents. Roof rats nest in hay lofts, rafters and the trees near the barn, while Norway rats burrow along foundations, under feed sheds and near manure piles. Mice get into tack rooms and chew blankets, saddle pads and wiring.

We start by finding where they live and how they travel. Then we set up tamper-resistant bait stations around the outside of the barn and outbuildings, placed where horses, dogs and other animals can't reach them, plus traps inside where appropriate. We avoid feed rooms, and we'll recommend sealed metal or heavy plastic feed bins, which help more than anything. For the house, we inspect the roofline, the garage and utility openings and seal the gaps. See our Davie rodent control page.

Fleas, ticks and open land

Pastures, trails, tree lines and open land mean more ticks and fleas, especially for dogs and anyone walking the property. The brown dog tick can even set up indoors, in dog beds and along baseboards. The American dog tick waits in tall grass and brush along trails. The lone star tick, an aggressive biter, also turns up along wooded edges.

We treat the yard areas around the home where ticks and fleas wait, like shady edges, dog runs and the area near the porch, along with the inside of the home if fleas have moved in. We don't treat pastures or turf. Your dog also needs a vet-approved flea and tick product at the same time. See Davie flea and tick control.

Mosquito control for big yards and barns

On acreage, mosquitoes have endless places to breed: buckets, troughs, wheelbarrows, tarps, tires, gutters on the barn and house, rain barrels, bromeliads and low spots that hold rain. The Asian tiger mosquito breeds in containers and bites during the day, while floodwater mosquitoes hatch in low spots after heavy rain.

You don't have to treat every square foot to feel the difference. Our monthly mosquito service, with a customizable schedule, focuses on the places people and animals spend time. Your technician uses a backpack fogger on the shady resting areas near the house, around outbuildings, along tree lines and around the barn, never spraying animals, and treats breeding spots with larvicide. We'll show you which troughs and buckets to dump or scrub between visits. Hosting a barn party, a horse show gathering or a backyard wedding? We also do one-time event sprays. See our Davie mosquito control page.

Fire ants in paddocks and yards

Fire ants are a real problem on Davie properties. They build mounds in sunny areas, along fence lines, around posts and near water troughs, and they sting people, dogs and young animals. We treat fire ant mounds one by one around the home, the barn and the areas you use every day, and we offer yard treatments for fleas and ants around the home. We don't treat whole pastures, turf or plants. Tell us where your animals are, and we'll plan the treatment around them. See Davie ant control.

Tree Tops Park, Pine Island Ridge and wooded lots

Some of Davie's neighborhoods sit next to wooded areas like Tree Tops Park and the Pine Island Ridge natural area, with big oaks and dense native vegetation. Homes next to woods see more roof rats, more spiders and more ticks. Oaks hanging over the roof are a bridge for rats. Leaf litter and woodpiles shelter palmetto bugs and centipedes. We inspect the roofline and the edge of the property closest to the woods, treat the perimeter and recommend trimming branches back from the roof.

Subdivisions and newer neighborhoods

Davie also has plenty of regular subdivisions, townhome communities and newer neighborhoods. Those homes deal with the usual South Florida lineup: palmetto bugs after storms, ants trailing along the slab, spiders on the pool cage, mosquitoes in the backyard and German cockroaches in kitchens. We treat those homes the same way we treat any home, with an inspection first and a plan built around what we find.

Student housing and rentals near the campuses

Davie is home to several college campuses, and the apartments, townhomes and shared houses near them see plenty of turnover. German cockroaches come in with used furniture and appliances, and bed bugs travel in luggage and secondhand mattresses. For landlords, we offer turnover service between tenants. For renters, we treat the unit and explain how to keep things from coming back. See our Davie roach control page and bed bug treatment.

Palmetto bugs, wood piles and workshops

Big properties usually have woodpiles, workshops, sheds, stored equipment and leaf litter, which are perfect habitat for palmetto bugs, centipedes, spiders and scorpions. We treat the perimeter of the house and the outbuildings, and recommend keeping woodpiles off the ground and away from the walls.

After storms on acreage

Heavy summer storms can leave Davie properties, paddocks and swales under water. Fire ants float up in clumps, rodents move into barns and homes, and mosquitoes hatch about a week later from troughs, low spots and anything that held water. Check barns and feed storage for rodent activity after a storm. Our guides on floating fire ants after flooding and rodents after a hurricane have more.

Chickens, goats and backyard livestock

Plenty of Davie properties have more than horses: chickens, ducks, goats, pigs, rabbits or a pony for the kids. Coops and pens bring their own pests. Spilled scratch grain feeds rats and mice, waterers breed mosquitoes, and bedding and droppings breed flies. We treat around coops and pens with the same care we use in a barn. We keep products away from feed and water, never spray the animals, and tell you how long to keep them out of treated spots. A hardware-cloth skirt around the bottom of a coop and a sealed bin for feed go a long way toward keeping rats out.

Wasps under barn eaves and in fence posts

Barns, run-in sheds, fence caps and hollow gate posts are favorite nesting spots for paper wasps. A wasp nest over a stall door or by the wash rack is a real risk when a horse gets stung and spooks. We remove and treat wasp nests around the barn and the home, working when the animals are out of the area.

Davie's trail riders and dogs

Davie's horse trails run all through the western part of town, and many riders bring dogs along. Ticks wait in the brush and tall grass along trail edges and drop onto dogs and people. After a ride, check yourself and your dogs, especially around the ears, neck, armpits and between toes. If ticks are showing up in the house or the kennel, call us. We'll treat the home, the kennel area and the yard spots near the house where ticks wait.

Pests we see most in Davie

  • Flies: around barns, manure and coops in the warm months.
  • Rats and mice: in feed areas, hay storage, tack rooms, garages and attics.
  • Mosquitoes: on acreage, near canals and around troughs and low spots.
  • Fire ants: around posts, fences, troughs and sunny yards.
  • Ticks and fleas: from trails, brush, wildlife and dogs.
  • Palmetto bugs, scorpions and spiders: in woodpiles, workshops and sheds.
  • German cockroaches and bed bugs: in apartments, rentals and student housing.

Feed storage that keeps rodents out

Since feed is the root of most barn rodent problems, it's worth getting storage right. Metal trash cans with tight lids or heavy-duty feed bins work well for grain and pellets. Keep bags off the floor on pallets or shelves, away from walls, so you can see behind them. Sweep up spilled feed every evening. Store hay on pallets with space around the stack, and check it for nests when you pull bales. Keep the tack room door closed. None of this replaces rodent control, but it decides how quickly rats come back.

Workshops, RVs and equipment storage

Many Davie properties have a workshop, a pole barn full of equipment, a trailer, an RV or a boat stored under cover. Rodents love these spaces. They nest in engine compartments, chew wiring and hoses, and build nests in stored cushions and boxes. We include these buildings in the inspection and place tamper-resistant bait stations and traps where they'll do the most good. If you're storing an RV or a trailer, check it every few weeks and keep doors and hatches closed.

Scorpions and centipedes on wooded lots

On wooded and rural lots, people are sometimes surprised to find a Florida bark scorpion in a shoe, a glove or the bathtub. They hide under bark, in woodpiles, under stones and in stored lumber, and they come inside through gaps under doors and around plumbing. Their sting is painful, though generally not dangerous for healthy adults. Centipedes live in the same places. We treat the perimeter, the woodpiles' surroundings and the garage edges, and recommend shaking out boots and gloves stored outside.

Homes along the canals

Davie has a lot of canal frontage, and many homes back up to a canal or a drainage ditch. Canals bring mosquitoes, rats moving along the banks at night and wildlife carrying fleas. We treat the shady resting areas near the water's edge on your lot, inspect the roofline and garage for rodent entry, and treat the yard areas around the home where fleas wait.

Text us a photo first

If you're not sure whether the droppings in the tack room are from rats or mice, or what's flying around the barn, text a photo to 833-845-9284. It helps us bring the right equipment and plan the visit around your animals.
