Out here, a mosquito visit often means planning around more ground than most South Florida yards have. West of University Drive and along Orange Drive, lots open up into pastures, paddocks, barns and tree lines, and toward the Southwest Ranches line many properties keep horses. The South New River Canal runs beside Orange Drive, and Tree Tops Park, Pine Island Ridge and Robbins Preserve bring woods and wetlands close to homes. Closer in, subdivisions have pool cages, gutters and bromeliads. We're a family-run team, and mosquito control in Davie starts with a FREE inspection of every new property and $50 off the first service.

Where mosquitoes hide on a big property

Adult mosquitoes spend the day in still, humid shade and come out when you do. On a big lot, that means a lot of hiding places:

  • Tree lines and hedgerows along fences and property lines
  • The shady side of barns, sheds and run-in stalls
  • Under trailers, equipment and covered wash racks
  • Around the house: under the pool cage edges, behind A/C units, under stairs and patios

And they breed in whatever holds rain for a week: water troughs and buckets, wheelbarrows, tarps over hay or equipment, an old tire behind the barn, hoof prints and tire ruts in a wet paddock, and clogged gutters on the house and barn.

How we treat a large property

You don't need every acre treated. During the FREE inspection we walk the property with you and agree on the zones that matter: usually the house and outdoor living areas, the barn and the paddocks you use every day.

The house zone. A licensed technician uses a backpack fogger on the shade around the home where mosquitoes rest, starting with the patio, pool cage and the areas where kids and pets spend time. The backpack fogger is for outdoor work only. We never use it indoors.

The barn zone. We treat the outside resting areas around barns and sheds and plan around your animals. We stay out of feed rooms, keep product away from where horses eat and drink, and never spray animals directly. Tell us where each animal is kept and we'll tell you how long to keep them out of treated areas.

Water you can't dump. Drains, low spots that hold water for days and fountains or water features without fish, where the product label allows, get larvicide so larvae can't develop. Troughs aren't treated; scrub and refill them instead. We don't treat ponds with fish, and we never spray into or toward the canal or a pond.

Larval traps. Monthly mosquito plans add larval traps placed in shade near resting spots. The active ingredient is a growth regulator, like birth control for insects, so larvae that hatch there don't grow into biters. Traps are part of monthly plans only.

Barn flies are a separate problem from mosquitoes, and we handle them on a flexible schedule. See barn fly control for small barns.

In a subdivision instead?

Most of Davie isn't acreage, and suburban homes get the same attention: the shade inside hedges and along fences, pool cage edges and lanais, gutters, bromeliads and the saucers and toys that collect rain. Lots that back onto a canal or lake get extra time on the land side, treated from land only.

Mosquito control in Davie through the rainy season

From late spring through fall, afternoon storms refill troughs, tarps and ruts almost daily, and new mosquitoes show up about a week after each heavy rain. We recommend monthly treatments, especially in the rainy season, with the schedule adjusted to your property.

What helps most between visits on a horse property:

  • Scrub and refill troughs and buckets every few days in summer.
  • Flip wheelbarrows and stack buckets upside down.
  • Pull tarps tight or store them folded under cover.
  • Fill or level paddock low spots that stay wet after storms.
  • Clean gutters on the house and barn, and check the horse trailer and unused equipment.

Mosquito Control FAQs

Do you treat the whole acreage or just around the house?
The zones you choose. Most owners pick the house, outdoor living areas, the barn and the paddocks they use most. We'll suggest what makes sense during the FREE inspection.
Can mosquitoes make my horses sick?
They can. Mosquitoes spread Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile virus, which can affect horses, so ask your veterinarian about EEE and West Nile vaccines. Our part is treating mosquito resting spots around the barn and the house. We stay out of feed rooms, keep product away from where horses eat and drink, and never spray animals directly.
Will you treat my water troughs?
No. Water your animals drink isn't treated. Scrubbing and refilling troughs every few days keeps larvae from developing.
Do I still need visits in the dry months?
Most acreage owners stay monthly from spring through fall and talk with us about winter. Troughs, tarps and low paddocks can keep breeding mosquitoes whenever it rains, so we set the winter schedule after looking at your property.
How much does mosquito service cost for acreage?
It's quoted after the FREE inspection, because lot size, the zones you choose and the breeding spots vary. New customers get $50 off the first service.
