Surfside is a small beach town between Miami Beach and Bal Harbour, with oceanfront condos along Collins Avenue, a walkable shopping strip on Harding Avenue, and quiet single-family streets west of it that run down toward the bay and the canals. The town's community center sits right on the ocean at 93rd Street, and on weekends the sidewalks between the beach and the shops are full of families, strollers and dogs.

In condos, roaches and ants move through shared plumbing and trash areas. Shops and restaurants downtown add roach and rodent pressure nearby, and single-family homes with tropical landscaping see palmetto bugs, ants and spiders. Pro-Spray is a family-run, Licensed & Insured South Florida company. We treat discreetly, with families and pets in mind, and we speak English and Spanish. Call or text 833-845-9284 for a FREE inspection and $50 off your first service.

Oceanfront condos on Collins Avenue

Surfside's condo buildings range from small mid-century walk-ups to newer oceanfront towers, and roach problems look different in each. In an older low-rise, the typical culprit is a neighbor's kitchen on the other side of a shared wall or a trash room downstairs. In a newer tower, it's more often something that arrived in a grocery bag or an online order and started a small colony under the dishwasher. Either way, the German cockroach is the species we find most often inside units.

Our approach is quiet and targeted. We place gel bait and a growth regulator in the hinges, voids and appliance gaps where these roaches spend the day, skip the broad spraying and come back to confirm the population is falling. Let your front desk or manager know we're coming, and ask whether they need our insurance certificate.

Single-family homes west of Harding

The residential streets west of Harding Avenue are lined with single-family homes, many of them older, with palms, sea grape, hedges and tropical plantings. Those yards shelter palmetto bugs, ants and spiders, and the homes closest to the bay and canals deal with rats and no-see-ums too. Older homes have more gaps around doors, windows and plumbing, and newer rebuilds often have big outdoor living areas with lots of lighting that attracts insects.

During the FREE inspection we walk the whole property, inside and out, check the gaps where pests come in, and look at the landscaping beds near the foundation. Then we treat where pests live, the routes they use and the inside spots where they show up.

Harding Avenue shops and restaurants

Harding Avenue's restaurants, cafés, bakeries and shops give Surfside its small-town downtown. They also mean grease traps, dumpsters, deliveries and outdoor seating, which attract roaches, flies and rodents. Homes and condos nearby can feel that pressure. For businesses along the strip, our commercial pest control service handles kitchens, storage rooms and dumpster areas on a schedule that works around your hours.

Palmetto bugs in the bathroom

If you're finding big brown roaches in the bathroom at night, they're almost certainly palmetto bugs. They live in sewers, storm drains, mulch and palm trunks, and they come up through floor drains, tub drains and gaps under doors, especially after heavy rain. In condos, they can also travel up through plumbing chases. We treat the entry points and the areas where they live, and we share simple prevention steps: keep drain stoppers in at night, run water in unused drains and keep door sweeps in good shape.

Ants in condos and homes

White-footed ants nest in palms, planters and landscaping, including balcony planters on upper floors, and trail inside along wires and window frames. Ghost ants show up at kitchen and bathroom sinks. Fire ants mound up in sunny yards and sidewalk strips. We use baits that ants carry back to the colony, because spraying the trail you can see doesn't reach the nest, and we treat fire ant mounds around the home one by one.

Roof rats near the bay and canals

On the bay side of town, palms, fruit trees and seawalls give roof rats food, cover and a hidden route at night. They climb palms and power lines and get into attics through soffits, roof vents and AC line openings. In condo buildings, rodents tend to show up in garages, loading areas and trash rooms. Our rodent service finds the entry points, uses traps and tamper-resistant bait stations placed out of reach of kids and pets, seals the openings and follows up. See rodent control.

Mosquito control in Surfside

Courtyards, planters and yards on the west side hold rainwater that mosquitoes breed in. Bromeliads, plant saucers, birdbaths, boat covers and clogged gutters are the usual sources, and the Asian tiger mosquito breeds in containers as small as a bottle cap. Our monthly service uses a backpack fogger on the shaded resting spots, like hedges, under decks and along fences, and we put larvicide in water that can't be dumped. The schedule is customizable, and we do one-time event sprays before a birthday party or a dinner outside. See mosquito control.

Biting gnats on the beach side

Sunset on the beach is beautiful until the no-see-ums arrive. They're tiny midges, barely visible, that breed in damp sand and shoreline mud and bite hardest on still, humid evenings. Long sleeves at dusk, a breeze from a fan and fine-mesh screening do more than most people expect. Around the home, we treat the shaded plants and walls where they rest during the day.

Terraces, potted plants and the sliding door

A balcony full of potted herbs and palms is lovely, but those pots often turn out to be the home base for the ants marching across the living room floor. Lift a pot and look underneath; if you see ants carrying eggs, you've found the nest. Empty water from saucers after storms, and keep cushions on chairs instead of stacked on the floor where spiders settle in.

When the home sits empty

Owners who split the year between Surfside and somewhere else come back to the same few surprises: roaches in the kitchen, ants in the pantry and small fuzzy drain flies on the bathroom wall. Water evaporates from drain traps over a few months, and that opens a path from the plumbing. Ask a neighbor or building staff to run the taps every couple of weeks, clear out open food before leaving, and schedule a service visit before you go and again after you return.

Beach gear, coolers and strollers

Beach days end with sandy bags, coolers with melted ice and snack crumbs, and strollers with crackers wedged in the seat. Left in the garage, the trunk or the entry closet, they draw ants and roaches. Rinse coolers and let them dry upside down, shake out beach bags outdoors and vacuum strollers now and then. A quick wipe of the car's back seat after a beach day helps too.

Bed bugs after a trip

Hotel stays, cruises and visiting relatives are the most common way bed bugs reach a Surfside home. Unpack luggage in the bathroom or on a hard floor, wash and dry travel clothes on high heat, and check mattress seams if anyone wakes up with itchy bites in a row. Call before moving furniture around, since that can spread them. More on our bed bug treatment page.

The 93rd Street community center and beach paths

The town's oceanfront community center and the beach access paths are where much of Surfside spends its weekends. The dune plants and sea grape along the paths shelter ants, spiders and no-see-ums, and kids and dogs carry sand, snacks and the occasional hitchhiking ant back home. Rinsing off beach toys and shaking out towels outside before coming in keeps most of it at the door.

Older walk-up buildings

Some of Surfside's smaller apartment and condo buildings date back several decades. Original windows, worn thresholds, exterior stairwells and open breezeways give palmetto bugs, ants and spiders easy access, and the building's shared laundry and trash areas can feed roaches throughout. If you live in one of these buildings, sealing gaps around your own door, windows and plumbing helps, and building-wide service helps even more. We're happy to talk with your association about common areas.

Dogs and fleas

Surfside is a very walkable town, and dogs are part of daily life on the sidewalks and paths. Cat fleas come home on pets and develop in carpets, pet beds and shady corners of the yard. We treat inside the home and the shaded yard areas where fleas develop, and pets need a vet-approved flea product at the same time.

Wasps and spiders on the beachfront

Wind off the ocean pushes flying insects toward the shelter of buildings, and spiders follow. Expect orb weaver webs on balcony railings and under eaves, and watch for red paper wasps building small open nests under balcony ledges and window awnings. We treat and remove wasp nests around the home and brush down webs within reach.

After storms

Storms can push water into low streets on the bay side, damage screens and seals, and drive palmetto bugs and rodents indoors. Mosquitoes hatch about a week after heavy rain. Our guides to rodents after a hurricane and post-flood pest control explain what to watch for.

What we see most in Surfside
