Cooper City calls itself "Someplace Special," and the people who live here mostly agree. It's a quiet suburb of about six and a half square miles in southwest Broward, a Tree City USA community with tree-lined streets, lakes in nearly every neighborhood and more than a dozen parks. Families come here for the schools, the sports fields at Brian Piccolo Sports Park and Bill Lips Sports Complex, and the feel of a small town between Davie, Pembroke Pines and Southwest Ranches.

The same things that make Cooper City pleasant also make it comfortable for ants, spiders, rodents, palmetto bugs and mosquitoes. Pro-Spray is a family-run, licensed and insured pest control company from Hollywood, and we build each plan around your home, from a lakefront house in Embassy Lakes to a larger lot in the southwest part of the city. Call or text 833-845-9284 to book a FREE inspection. New customers get $50 off the first service, with no code and no expiration.

Lakes, canals and the stormwater system

Communities like Embassy Lakes, Rock Creek and Monterra are built around lakes, and the city's stormwater system runs through a network of canals, lakes and drains. Lake banks, irrigated landscaping and shady plantings along the water are prime territory for mosquitoes and spiders. Pool cages and screened patios that face the water collect insects around the lights at night, and spiders follow them.

Lakefront living also brings more wildlife into the yard: raccoons, opossums, ducks and the occasional iguana. Wildlife leaves fleas behind, and their trails along the bank are often where we find fire ant mounds. We don't handle wildlife removal, but we treat the pests that come with it.

Embassy Lakes and the established eastern neighborhoods

Embassy Lakes is one of Cooper City's best-known communities, with family homes set around a series of lakes. Many of the homes here and in the older neighborhoods nearby date from the 1970s and '80s, so they've had time to settle. Door thresholds wear, slab edges crack, screens tear, and decades of landscaping have grown up close to the walls.

In these homes, we focus on entry points. Palmetto bugs live in the mulch and the storm drains and walk in under doors and through garage gaps, especially after heavy rain. Ghost ants follow the cracks along the slab and come up around plumbing in the kitchen and bathrooms. We treat the perimeter, the garage and the entry points, and we tell you which gaps to seal.

Rock Creek, Country Glen and Cooper Colony: big trees and roof rats

Older neighborhoods such as Rock Creek, Country Glen and Cooper Colony have big oaks, mature palms and fruit trees hanging over the roofline. That canopy is a big part of their charm, and it's also a highway for roof rats. Rats run along branches, fences and power lines, then squeeze in through gable vents, soffit gaps, roof returns and the openings around AC lines and plumbing stacks.

Most people hear them before they see them: scratching or running in the attic around dusk and early morning. Other signs include droppings in the attic or garage, chewed fruit on the trees and greasy rub marks around openings. Our rodent service starts with an inspection of the whole roofline. We trap the rats that are inside, seal the entry points with materials they can't chew through, and come back to check. Outside, we can place tamper-resistant bait stations where kids and pets can't reach them. See our Cooper City rodent control page.

Monterra and the newer communities

Monterra is one of Cooper City's newer communities, with lakes, parks and a mix of single-family homes and townhomes. Newer homes are tighter than older ones, but new construction brings its own problems. Disturbed soil and fresh mulch give ant colonies a place to start, especially big-headed ants and fire ants. Young landscaping and new irrigation keep the ground damp near the walls, which palmetto bugs like. Shared walls in townhomes let ants and German cockroaches move between units.

We treat the foundation, the entry points and the outdoor nesting areas, and in townhomes we focus on your unit and the perimeter you control. If several owners in a row have the same problem, we can talk with the association about a broader plan.

Southwest Cooper City and larger lots

The southwest part of the city has some larger lots, more open space, and properties that feel closer to neighboring Southwest Ranches. Bigger yards mean more places for fire ants, more wildlife passing through and more standing water after storms. Sheds, workshops and stored equipment give spiders and rodents shelter. We inspect the outbuildings along with the house and plan the treatment around how you use your property.

Mosquito control for Cooper City lakefront yards

The lake gets the blame, but many of the mosquitoes on your patio bred in standing water right on your property: gutters, bromeliads, kids' toys, pool covers, plant saucers, buckets and tires. The Asian tiger mosquito, a black-and-white daytime biter, needs only a spoonful of water to breed.

Our mosquito service is monthly and customizable. Your technician uses a backpack fogger on the places adult mosquitoes rest: hedges, palm clusters, the shady side of the house, under the lanai and along the lake bank on your lot. We treat breeding spots with larvicide so fewer mosquitoes hatch, and we'll show you what to dump between visits. We can't treat the lake itself, but we can make a real difference on your patio. Hosting a birthday party, a team celebration after a game at Brian Piccolo or a backyard wedding? We also do one-time event sprays. See our Cooper City mosquito control page.

HOA mosquito control

Many Cooper City neighborhoods are run by homeowners' associations, with clubhouses, pools, playgrounds and lakefront walking paths. We offer monthly mosquito service for common areas, using a backpack fogger on resting areas and larvicide on breeding spots in drains, planters and low areas. We can provide a certificate of insurance when the board or management company asks. Learn more on our HOA mosquito control page.

Fleas and ticks from parks and lake trails

Cooper City families spend a lot of time outside, at Brian Piccolo Sports Park, Bill Lips Sports Complex, the neighborhood parks and the lake trails. Dogs come home with fleas and ticks from those trips and from wildlife in the backyard. A flea problem needs two things at once: a vet-approved product on your pet, and treatment of the home and the yard areas around the house where fleas develop. We handle the home and yard. Read more about brown dog ticks, which can set up indoors.

Lawns, mulch and moisture

Big St. Augustine lawns and mulched beds are part of the Cooper City look. They're also where fire ants build mounds, where palmetto bugs hide after storms, and where ants trail toward the house through slab cracks and window frames. We treat fire ant mounds and offer yard treatments for fleas and ants around the home. We don't do lawn or plant care, so if you're dealing with chinch bugs or a turf disease, you'll want a lawn and ornamental specialist for that part.

Ants indoors

Ghost ants, big-headed ants and white-footed ants are the most common indoor ants in Cooper City. They nest outside under pavers and mulch, in wall voids and in potted plants on the lanai, then trail inside for water and sugar. Spraying the trail scatters them. We use baits the workers carry back to the colony and treat the outside nesting areas. See Cooper City ant control.

German cockroaches and kitchens

German cockroaches are the indoor roaches that breed in kitchens and bathrooms. They come in with groceries, boxes, used appliances and furniture, and in townhomes they travel through shared plumbing. We place baits and growth regulators where they hide and follow up until they're gone. See our Cooper City roach control page.

Businesses on Griffin, Stirling and Flamingo Roads

Cooper City's shopping plazas, restaurants, offices, daycares and medical practices sit mostly along Griffin Road, Stirling Road, Sheridan Street and Flamingo Road. Kitchens draw German cockroaches, dumpsters draw rats, and landscaped grounds bring ants and mosquitoes. We schedule commercial service around your hours and focus on kitchens, drains, storage areas, delivery doors and waste areas. See commercial pest control.

After storms

Heavy summer storms can leave Cooper City yards, swales and lake banks under water. Fire ants float up in clumps that sting, rats and palmetto bugs head for higher ground, and a week or so later mosquitoes hatch from every container that held water. Our guides on floating fire ants after flooding and post-flood pest control explain what to do.

A Tree City canopy and what lives in it

Cooper City takes its trees seriously, and the shade is a big part of why the city feels cooler and greener than its neighbors. A big canopy also changes the pest picture. Shaded yards stay damp longer after rain, so mosquitoes rest there all day. Leaf litter builds up in flower beds and gutters, and palmetto bugs and centipedes live in it. Branches that touch the roof bring roof rats and ants onto the house. Spanish moss and dense crowns hide spider webs and wasp nests.

You don't need to cut down a single tree to manage this. Keep branches trimmed back a few feet from the roof, clean gutters after storms, rake leaf litter out of the beds next to the house, and keep mulch a few inches away from the foundation. We'll point out the specific branches and spots on your property during the inspection, so you know exactly what to tell your tree trimmer.

Wasps, mud daubers and stinging insects

Covered patios, eaves, play sets, mailboxes and the underside of pool-cage gutters are favorite spots for paper wasps in Cooper City. Their nests are open, umbrella-shaped combs, and they'll sting to defend them, which is a problem around kids and pets. We remove and treat paper wasp nests around the home. Mud daubers, which build tube-shaped mud nests, rarely sting and are often left alone unless they're in a spot that bothers you.

Spiders on pool cages and in garages

Pool cages that face a lake collect spiders quickly, because the lights draw insects at night. Garages full of sports gear, holiday boxes and bikes give house spiders and the occasional brown widow plenty of hiding places. On a general pest visit, we knock down webs we can reach, treat the cage framing, the eaves, the corners and the garage edges, and tell you where we found egg sacs.

What to expect when you call us

Cooper City homeowners tend to do their homework before they hire anyone, and we'd rather answer your questions up front than surprise you later. Here's the short version. We start with a FREE inspection. We tell you what we found and what we recommend, including when a problem is something you can fix yourself. We don't lock you into a contract, we don't charge cancellation fees, and we come back between visits at no extra cost if pests return. If that sounds like how you'd want to be treated, give us a call or send a text.

Pests we see most in Cooper City

  • Mosquitoes: around lakes, canals and shaded yards, peaking from late spring through fall.
  • Roof rats: in older neighborhoods with mature trees and fruit trees.
  • Palmetto bugs: in mulch, drains and garages, especially after storms.
  • Ants: ghost ants, big-headed ants and white-footed ants indoors, fire ants outdoors.
  • Spiders and paper wasps: on pool cages, eaves and play sets.
  • Fleas and ticks: brought home by dogs and wildlife.
  • German cockroaches and bed bugs: less common, but we treat both.

Families with young kids

Cooper City is full of young families, and parents ask us the same smart questions: what are you using, where, and when can the kids go back outside? We'll answer all of that before we start. Indoors, we rely on baits and targeted applications placed in cracks, voids and behind appliances instead of spraying open surfaces. Outdoors, we treat the perimeter and the specific spots where pests live. We'll tell you exactly how long to keep kids and pets off treated areas, and we'll leave toys, play sets and sandboxes alone unless you ask us to treat around them.

Lake banks and wildlife trails

Behind many lakefront homes, there's a strip of bank where the grass meets the water. Ducks, herons and turtles use it during the day, and raccoons and opossums use it at night. Those trails leave fleas behind, and the sunny edges are a favorite spot for fire ant mounds. We treat fire ant mounds along the part of the bank that's on your lot and the yard areas around the home where fleas wait. We don't treat the water or the shoreline vegetation.

Schools, daycares and youth sports

Cooper City has a lot of schools, daycares, churches and youth sports organizations, and they all deal with pests in kitchens, storage closets, concession stands and equipment sheds. Concession stands at ballfields are a classic spot for German cockroaches and ants, because food, drinks and cardboard boxes sit in a closed room for days between games. If you manage one of these spaces, we can set up a regular schedule that fits around games, school hours and events.

Garages full of sports gear

Between soccer, baseball, swim team and lacrosse, a lot of Cooper City garages double as equipment rooms. Cleats, bags, coolers and water bottles with a little sugar left in them attract ants and palmetto bugs, and stacked boxes give spiders and mice cover. Rinse coolers and bottles before storing them, keep bins closed and off the floor, and leave a little space along the walls so you can see what's going on back there.
