Family-run, licensed and insured pest control in South Florida.
$50 OFF your first service + FREE inspectionNew customers · No code needed · No expirationHalfway across Biscayne Bay on the 79th Street Causeway, also called the John F. Kennedy Causeway, sits North Bay Village: a small city spread over three islands. Harbor Island is mostly apartments and condominiums. North Bay Island mixes homes and multifamily buildings. Treasure Island has single-family homes on its west end and multifamily buildings on its east end, and its streets take their names from Robert Louis Stevenson's novel. The village is also home to Treasure Island Elementary, and the WSVN television studios stand on Broadcast Key.
Island life here means water on every side, tight lots, a busy causeway running through the middle and a lot of people living close together. Each of those shapes what we find when we inspect. Pro-Spray Pest Control is a family-run company, licensed and insured, and we treat apartments, condos, homes and businesses across all three islands. Call or Text 833-845-9284 for a FREE inspection and $50 off your first service.
Three islands, three kinds of pest pressure
Harbor Island is dominated by apartment and condo towers and mid-rise buildings, many with marinas or bay views. Most pest calls here start inside: roaches traveling between units, ants on balconies and in kitchens, and occasional bed bugs brought in with luggage.
North Bay Island has a mix of houses and multifamily buildings. That means a bit of everything, from rats in backyard palms to roaches in shared walls.
Treasure Island splits in two. On the single-family west end, waterfront yards, docks, palms and hedges bring rodents, mosquitoes and no-see-ums. On the multifamily east end, building-wide roach and ant control matters most.
Knowing which island and which kind of building you're in lets us tailor the visit from the start instead of using one plan for every address.
Roaches in mid-rise and high-rise buildings
When dozens of units share plumbing stacks, trash chutes and electrical shafts, pests travel between floors without ever going outside. The German cockroach is built for this. It's small and light brown, breeds in the warmth behind refrigerators, dishwashers and stoves, and spreads through the gaps around pipes.
For a single apartment, we use gel bait and insect growth regulator placed in the cracks where roaches spend their time, then return to confirm the numbers are falling. For buildings, we work with property managers and condo boards to treat trash rooms, laundry rooms, compactor areas and groups of units on a schedule, which is the only way to keep them from cycling back. If you're a renter, let your manager know when you see roaches, since neighbors are often dealing with them too.
Palmetto bugs that ride the drains
The big brown roach that sometimes flies at your face is the American cockroach, better known as the palmetto bug. On a small island, it lives in the storm drains, seawall cracks, sewer lines and landscaping. During heavy rain or high tides, water rises in the drainage system and pushes palmetto bugs up into parking garages, lobbies, ground-floor units and the drains of single-family homes.
Fitted drain covers, tight door sweeps on ground-floor doors and running water in seldom-used drains all help. We treat the building perimeter, garage areas, drains and entry points so fewer reach your unit.
Rodents on Treasure Island and North Bay Island
The single-family streets have mature palms, sea grape and fruit trees, and those are home to the roof rat. It's an agile climber that nests in palm fronds and vines, travels along wires and fences, and finds its way into attics through roof gaps and vents. Along the seawalls and docks, rats also scavenge for fish scraps and bait.
Our rodent control includes a full inspection of the roofline, attic access and ground-level openings. We use traps and tamper-resistant bait stations placed where kids and pets can't reach, seal openings and follow up until the problem is gone. In multifamily buildings, we focus on dumpster enclosures, garages and ground-floor entry points.
No-see-ums and the bay breeze
When the breeze dies down at dawn and dusk, the bay edges come alive with no-see-ums. They breed in the damp sand, mud and mangrove debris along the shoreline and are small enough to pass through most window screens. Balconies, docks and waterfront patios get hit hardest.
We treat the vegetation and shaded spots near the water where they rest. Outdoor fans are surprisingly effective because no-see-ums are such weak fliers. On a balcony, a simple fan can make evenings comfortable again.
Mosquitoes in balcony planters and backyard containers
Most mosquitoes on the islands don't come from the bay, which is salt water. They come from fresh water sitting in planters, saucers, bromeliads, kiddie pools, buckets, boat covers and balcony drains. The Asian tiger mosquito is the day-biting one with white stripes, and it's happy breeding in a single flowerpot saucer on a fifth-floor balcony.
Our mosquito control is monthly, and you can customize the schedule. On single-family properties, a technician treats resting areas in the landscaping with a backpack fogger and applies larvicide to water that can't be removed. For condo associations with shared grounds, see our HOA mosquito control program. We also offer event sprays before parties.
Ants from the ground floor to the penthouse
Ants don't stay on the ground. The ghost ant is one of the most common pests in South Florida condos, appearing on high floors in bathrooms and kitchens and nesting inside walls and potted plants. The white-footed ant nests in landscaping and climbs buildings along wires and walls. On the single-family side, fire ants build mounds in sunny yards.
We use baits indoors so the workers carry the treatment back to the colony. Outside, we treat fire ant mounds and ant nests in the yard around the home. We don't treat lawns, plants or shrubs.
Marinas, docks and boats
North Bay Village has docks behind homes and marinas along its shores. Boats bring cushions, coolers, tackle boxes and bait, all of which attract or hide pests. Rainwater pooled on a boat cover will breed mosquitoes in a week. Rats explore docked boats for food, and spiders build in the folds of stored gear.
Keep boat covers taut, take food and bait off the boat, store cushions where they can dry, and look through gear before bringing it inside.
Businesses along the causeway
The 79th Street Causeway runs through the village and is lined with restaurants, bars, offices and shops. Restaurants and bars have the usual pressure from roaches, flies and rodents, and those pests easily spread to nearby apartments. Our commercial pest control covers kitchens, bars, storage rooms, dumpster areas and drains on a schedule that works around your hours.
Bed bugs in a high-turnover area
Buildings with short-term rentals, seasonal residents and frequent moves have more opportunities for bed bugs. They hide in mattress seams, bed frames, couches and cracks near the bed, and leave small dark spots and bites in a line. Our bed bug treatment is a targeted inspection and treatment with follow-up visits. In multifamily buildings, we recommend checking adjoining units too.
Spiders and wasps on balconies
Balconies and patio lights draw flying insects at night, and spiders move in to feed on them. Most are harmless, but the brown widow likes balcony furniture, planters and storage closets. Paper wasps and red paper wasps build open nests under balcony ceilings, eaves and railings. We treat spider hiding spots and remove wasp nests around your home.
Drain flies and fruit flies in kitchens
In older buildings, slow drains collect the organic film that drain flies breed in. They look like tiny moths on the bathroom wall. Fruit flies breed in overripe produce, recycling bins and the gunk in garbage disposals. Scrub drains with a brush and hot water, take out recycling often and keep ripe fruit in the refrigerator.
Fleas and pets in close quarters
Dogs walked on the causeway's grassy edges and in the parks can bring home cat fleas, and in apartments, fleas left by a previous tenant's pet can hatch weeks later. We treat the home thoroughly, and each pet needs a vet-recommended flea product the same week.
Parking garages and ground floors
Many buildings in North Bay Village have ground-level or podium parking. Garages stay shaded, collect trash and leaves, and connect straight to elevator lobbies, stairwells and service rooms. They're often the first place palmetto bugs, rats and spiders settle in a building. We inspect garage drains, trash staging areas, utility rooms and the gaps around doors that lead inside, and we treat those areas as part of building service.
Small kitchens and pantry pests
Apartment kitchens tend to be compact, with dry goods packed close together in a few cabinets. One infested bag of flour, rice or pet food can spread cigarette beetles or flour beetles to everything nearby. Store dry food in airtight containers, use older packages first and toss anything with tiny beetles or webbing. We can treat cabinet cracks afterward to catch the stragglers.
Storms on a causeway island
North Bay Village sits low in the middle of the bay. Tropical storms, heavy rain and king tides can put water in the streets and garages. Afterward, fire ants float and settle on dry ground, rats and palmetto bugs move into buildings, and mosquitoes hatch in standing water. See our guides to post-flood pest control and rodents after a hurricane.
Tips for apartment and condo residents
Keep food in sealed containers, wipe counters and stovetops every night, and take out trash before bed. Don't leave pet food out overnight. Keep balcony drains clear and empty plant saucers weekly. Report leaks right away, because roaches and ants follow moisture. And tell your building manager if you see pests, since a coordinated treatment works far better than treating one unit at a time.
Tips for homeowners on Treasure Island and North Bay Island
Trim palms and hedges back from the roof and walls. Keep a clear strip between landscaping and the foundation. Store firewood, pavers and boat gear off the ground. Check that soffit vents and attic screens are intact. Pick up fallen fruit. Empty anything that holds rainwater, and keep gutters clear.
