Southwest Ranches Pest Control for Acreage, Barns and Rural Homes
Family-run, licensed and insured pest control in South Florida.
$50 OFF your first service + FREE inspectionNew customers · No code needed · No expirationSouthwest Ranches has a rural feel you won't find in much of Broward County. It's a town of larger lots, horse properties, nurseries and custom homes with lots of open space, set between Davie, Cooper City, Pembroke Pines and Weston. Multi-use equestrian trails run along roads like SW 178th Avenue, and places like Rolling Oaks Park, with its restored barn, old trees, wetlands and western pasture, show what the town is about.
More land means more pests, and a treatment that only covers the house usually isn't enough out here. Pro-Spray is a family-run, licensed and insured company. We take the time to walk your property with you, focus on the house, garage and outbuildings, and use careful methods around kids, pets and animals. Call or text 833-845-9284 to book a FREE inspection, and new customers get $50 off the first service.
A property, not just a house
Most Southwest Ranches homes sit on an acre or more, and many have a barn, a stable, a workshop, a detached garage, a guest house, sheds, kennels or a chicken coop. Each of those buildings has its own pests. A rat that lives in the hay loft doesn't stay there, and a fly that breeds in the manure pile doesn't stay in the barn.
So we treat the property as a whole. We start by walking it with you and asking how you use it: where the animals are, where feed and hay are stored, where the kids play, where you entertain, where water sits after a storm. Then we plan treatment for the house and the buildings that matter, and we tell you what's being applied, where and when animals and people can go back.
Barns, stables and feed
Feed rooms, hay storage and barns are the heart of most pest problems in Southwest Ranches. Grain and pellets attract rats and mice. Spilled feed and wet bedding breed flies. Tack rooms and storage areas shelter spiders and roaches. We treat barns and outbuildings with your animals' safety first: we avoid feed rooms and never spray animals directly. We focus on walls, rafters, the exterior of the building, tack and storage areas and the perimeter.
The single best thing you can do is store feed in sealed metal or heavy plastic bins and clean up spills every day. That alone removes a big part of what keeps rodents around.
Rodents on acreage
Roof rats climb into hay lofts, rafters and the trees around the barn and house. Norway rats burrow under sheds, feed rooms, slabs and manure piles. House mice get into tack rooms, workshops and garages and chew wiring, blankets and stored equipment.
Our rodent service on acreage uses tamper-resistant bait stations around the outside of barns and outbuildings, placed where horses, dogs, chickens and kids can't get to them, plus traps inside the house, attic and garage. We stay out of feed rooms. For the home, we inspect the roofline, the garage door seals and utility openings, trap and seal. See our Southwest Ranches rodent control page.
Flies around barns and animals
House flies and stable flies are a summer constant on horse properties. They breed in manure, wet bedding and spilled feed, and in the heat they go from egg to adult in about a week to ten days. We treat the surfaces flies rest on, like barn walls, rafters and shady spots outside, while staying out of feed rooms and away from animals. We'll also help you find the breeding spots, because regular manure removal and dry bedding make a bigger difference than any treatment alone.
Mosquitoes on big lots
Southwest Ranches has canals, ponds, wetlands and low spots that hold water after summer storms, plus troughs, buckets, wheelbarrows, tarps and tires on most properties. All of them breed mosquitoes. On a big lot, mosquitoes have a lot of room to hide, but they rest in predictable places: tree lines, hedges, barn edges, under porches and in the shady spots around the house.
Our mosquito service is monthly, with a schedule we customize. Your technician uses a backpack fogger to reach those resting areas, focusing on the parts of the property where people and animals spend time, never spraying animals directly. We treat breeding spots with larvicide and show you which troughs and containers to dump or scrub between visits. We also do one-time event sprays before a barn party, a wedding on the property or a family celebration. See our Southwest Ranches mosquito control page.
Fleas and ticks on trails and in the yard
Equestrian trails, pastures, brush and wildlife mean more ticks and fleas, for dogs and for people. Raccoons, opossums and stray cats carry fleas onto the property and leave them in shady resting spots. The brown dog tick can set up inside homes and kennels. The American dog tick waits in brush along trails and fence lines, and the lone star tick favors the shaded edges of wooded lots.
We treat the yard areas around the home where fleas and ticks wait, like dog runs, shady edges, porches and kennels, plus the inside of the home if fleas have moved in. We don't treat pastures or turf. Your dogs need a vet-approved flea and tick product at the same time. See Southwest Ranches flea and tick control.
Fire ants around the home and barn
Fire ants build mounds in sunny spots, along fence lines, around posts and gates, and near troughs. They sting people, dogs and young animals. We treat fire ant mounds one by one around the home, the barn and the areas you use every day, and we offer yard treatments for fleas and ants around the home. We don't treat whole pastures, turf or plants, and we plan around where your animals are. See Southwest Ranches ant control.
Palmetto bugs, scorpions and woodpiles
Woodpiles, lumber, stored equipment, leaf litter and the mulch around the house are home to palmetto bugs, centipedes, spiders and the occasional Florida bark scorpion. They come inside through garage gaps, under doors and around plumbing. We treat the perimeter of the house and the outbuildings, and we recommend keeping woodpiles off the ground and away from the walls. See our Southwest Ranches roach control page.
Nurseries and agricultural properties
Southwest Ranches has nurseries and small agricultural operations along with homes. We don't treat plants, crops, turf or ornamentals, because that requires a different license. What we can do on those properties is treat the structures: offices, break rooms, storage buildings, garages and the homes on the property, for roaches, rodents, ants and other household pests. If you need plant treatment, you'll want a licensed lawn and ornamental provider for that part.
Wildlife and the open land next door
Living next to open land means wildlife passes through every night. Raccoons, opossums and stray cats bring fleas, knock over feed and trash, and leave droppings. Wading birds and wildlife along canals are part of the scenery. We don't do wildlife removal, but we can help with what wildlife leaves behind, like fleas and the rodents drawn to the same food sources.
After storms
Heavy summer storms can flood paddocks, swales and low parts of a property for days. Fire ants float up in clumps that sting, rodents move into barns, garages and homes, and mosquitoes hatch about a week later from troughs and low spots. After a storm, check barns and feed storage for rodent activity and dump water from troughs, buckets and tarps. Our guides on floating fire ants after flooding and rodents after a hurricane explain more.
Questions we ask before treating a ranch property
Every Southwest Ranches property is laid out differently, so before we treat anything, we ask a few questions. Where are the animals during the day, and where do they sleep? Where is feed stored, and is it in sealed bins? Which buildings do people use every day, and which are just storage? Is there a well, a pond or a fish pond we should keep away from? Are there beehives on the property? Are there areas you want left alone? The answers shape where we treat, what we use and when. It takes a few extra minutes, and it means no surprises later.
Guest houses, casitas and detached garages
Many properties here have a guest house, a casita for family, a home office or a detached garage. Those buildings often sit empty for stretches, which gives pests time to settle in. Drains dry out and let roaches up, rats nest in stored boxes and spiders build in the corners. We inspect and treat them along with the main house so they don't become a source of pests for the rest of the property.
Kennels and dog runs
Dog runs and kennel buildings need extra attention for fleas and ticks. The brown dog tick, in particular, likes to hide in the cracks of kennel walls and along the base of runs, and it can complete its whole life cycle indoors. We treat kennel structures and the surrounding yard areas, while dogs are out of the area, and tell you how long to wait before putting them back. Pair it with a vet-approved product on each dog for the best results.

Ponds, wells and water features
Many Southwest Ranches properties have a pond, a canal frontage, a fish pond or a well. We take care around all of them. We don't treat open water like ponds or canals, and we keep products away from wells and the areas around them. Mosquito control on these properties focuses on the shady resting areas and the small containers that breed mosquitoes, like troughs, buckets and tarps, which is where most of the biting mosquitoes come from anyway.
A day on a Southwest Ranches service visit
Here's what a typical first visit looks like. We meet you at the gate, walk the property together and ask our questions about animals, feed and water. We inspect the house, the garage, the barn and any outbuildings. Then we explain what we found and agree on a plan. We treat the house inside and out, place rodent stations around the outbuildings, treat the barn surfaces we discussed and do the mosquito treatment if it's part of your plan. Before we leave, we go over what we did and when animals and people can go back to treated areas.
Rolling Oaks, trails and the town's open spaces
Rolling Oaks Park, with its old trees, wetlands, western pasture and restored barn, is a good picture of what much of Southwest Ranches looks like. The town's equestrian trails connect neighborhoods, and many residents ride, walk dogs or bike on them. That's a big part of the lifestyle, and it also means ticks hitch rides home on dogs and riders. After time on the trails, check yourself, your kids and your dogs. If ticks keep showing up inside, call us.
Gates, dogs and access
Most Southwest Ranches properties have a gate, and many have dogs that guard it well. When you book, tell us the gate code or how you'd like us to get in, and let us know about any dogs that need to be put away during the visit. We'd rather wait a few minutes than surprise your animals. If you won't be home, we'll agree beforehand on exactly which areas we'll treat.
Text us a photo
Not sure whether those droppings in the feed area are from rats or mice, or what's nesting under the barn eaves? Text a photo to 833-845-9284. It helps us plan the visit around your animals and bring the right equipment the first time. Photos of where you found it help too, like the corner of the tack room or the base of a post.
