Wilton Manors is known as the Island City because it's surrounded by forks of the Middle River. Its neighborhoods are full of mid-century homes, small condo buildings and riverfront lots, and Wilton Drive is the busy heart of town, lined with restaurants, bars and shops. Along the river, Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve gives residents a boardwalk and a shady patch of old Florida right in the middle of the city.

Riverfront yards and mature tropical landscaping shelter palmetto bugs, ants and spiders. Roof rats travel through palms and fruit trees, older homes have gaps worth sealing, and condos share plumbing that lets roaches move between units. Pro-Spray is a family-run, Licensed & Insured South Florida company. We treat with care for residents and pets and explain everything we do. Call or text 833-845-9284 for a FREE inspection and $50 off your first service.

An island city surrounded by water

Very few homes in Wilton Manors are far from the river or a canal. Water brings beautiful views and also a steady supply of pests. Seawalls and riverbanks give rats a hidden path at night. Mangroves and shoreline plants hold moisture where palmetto bugs and mosquitoes rest. Low areas near the river take a long time to drain after summer storms. When we inspect a riverfront home, the water side of the property gets the most attention, from the seawall cap to the back door.

Mid-century homes with character

Much of Wilton Manors was built in the 1950s and '60s. Many of those homes have been lovingly renovated, and they still have the quirks of their era: jalousie windows, original wood doors, terrazzo floors with expansion gaps, attic vents designed before anyone thought about roof rats and plumbing that's been patched over the decades. Each of those details can give pests a way in.

During the FREE inspection we check door sweeps, window frames, the gaps where plumbing and AC lines enter, attic vents and soffits. We treat where pests live and the routes they use, and we tell you which small repairs would help most. In a renovated home, we also look at new additions where old and new construction meet, because those seams often leave gaps.

Small condo buildings and shared plumbing

Wilton Manors has many small condo and co-op buildings, often two or three stories with a handful of units. In these buildings, German cockroaches and ants move between units through shared plumbing walls, and trash areas and laundry rooms serve the whole building. We treat individual units, focusing on kitchens and bathrooms with baits and growth regulators, and we're happy to talk with owners or the association about common areas so the whole building stays ahead of the problem.

Palmetto bugs along the river

The big American cockroach, the palmetto bug, thrives in Wilton Manors' moist, shady yards. It lives in mulch, palm trunks, leaf litter along the seawall and storm drains, and it comes in through garage doors, gaps under doors and floor drains, especially after heavy rain. We treat the exterior around the foundation, the gaps they use and the inside spots where they show up. Keeping mulch pulled back from the walls and drain stoppers in at night helps.

Roof rats in palms and fruit trees

Royal palms, coconut palms, mangoes and avocados are common here, and roof rats use them for food and access. They travel along the seawall, climb trees and power lines and enter attics through soffits, roof vents and AC line openings. Signs include scratching in the ceiling after dark, droppings in the attic or garage and fruit with gnawed holes. Our rodent service finds the entry points, uses traps and tamper-resistant bait stations placed where pets can't reach them, seals the openings and follows up. Trimming palms and cutting branches back from the roof help keep them out. See rodent control.

Ants in tropical landscaping

White-footed ants are one of the most common calls in Wilton Manors. They build huge colonies in palms, bromeliads and mulch, and trail inside along wires, window frames and plumbing. Big-headed ants push sand up between pavers and along driveways. Fire ants mound up in sunny spots. We use baits that ants carry back to the colony, treat fire ant mounds around the home one by one and treat the yard areas around the house where ants are nesting.

Mosquito control in Wilton Manors

River edges, bromeliads, courtyard planters, boat covers and fountain basins keep mosquitoes close. Bromeliads deserve a special mention: the water in their center cups is a perfect nursery for the Asian tiger mosquito, which bites all day. Flushing bromeliads with a hose once a week helps. Our monthly service uses a backpack fogger on the shaded spots where mosquitoes rest, and we put larvicide in standing water that can't be dumped. The schedule is customizable, and we offer one-time event sprays before a garden party or a gathering on the dock. See mosquito control.

No-see-ums on the river

On calm evenings near the river, many residents get bitten by something they can't see. Those are usually no-see-ums, tiny biting midges that breed in the wet soil and muck along the shoreline. They slip through standard window screens and are most active around dawn and dusk. Treating shaded resting spots near the home helps, and running a fan on the patio is surprisingly effective, because they're weak fliers.

Restaurants and bars along Wilton Drive

Wilton Drive and the surrounding blocks are packed with restaurants, bars and cafés. Grease, dumpsters, deliveries and late-night service attract roaches, flies and rodents, and homes and condos nearby can feel it. For businesses, our commercial pest control service handles kitchens, bars, storage rooms and dumpster areas on a schedule that works around your hours.

Richardson Park and the riverfront trails

Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve, with its boardwalk along the Middle River, is a favorite walk for residents and their dogs. Shaded riverfront spots like this are also where mosquitoes rest during the day and where fleas from wildlife can wait in the leaf litter. After a walk, a quick check of your dog's belly and legs is a good habit.

Pets and fleas

Wilton Manors is a very dog-friendly city, and plenty of dogs walk the neighborhoods, the riverfront and the local parks every day. Cat fleas, the common flea on both cats and dogs, come home on pets and develop in carpets, pet beds and shady corners of the yard. Raccoons and opossums that travel along the river drop flea eggs where they rest, too. We treat inside the home and the shaded yard areas where fleas develop, and pets need a vet-approved flea product at the same time.

Spiders on porches and lanais

Porch lights and lanai lights attract insects at night, which attract spiders. Most webs you'll see under eaves and around screens belong to harmless orb weavers and house spiders. Brown widows are common under patio furniture, inside planters and around the water meter. We remove webs within reach and treat the areas where spiders hide.

Courtyard gardens, fountains and ponds

Wilton Manors gardeners go all in: courtyards full of potted palms, orchids hanging from oaks, small fountains, koi ponds and birdbaths. It's beautiful, and every pot saucer and fountain basin is a place mosquitoes can breed. Ants nest inside pots, and palmetto bugs hide under the heavy planters that never get moved. Keep fountains running so the water circulates, change birdbath water twice a week, and tip pot saucers after rain. We never treat ponds or water features, but we treat the shaded areas around them where mosquitoes rest, and we can show you which containers are the real problem.

Bathrooms, closets and occasional invaders

Older bathrooms with original tile and slow exhaust fans stay humid, and humidity invites silverfish, springtails and drain flies. Drain flies are the small, fuzzy, moth-like flies that sit on the bathroom wall; they breed in the slime inside drains, so cleaning the drain with a brush is the fix, not a spray. Closets on exterior walls collect moisture too, and a dehumidifier or a fixed leak goes a long way. Our general service covers these occasional invaders along with roaches and ants.

Renovations and remodels

Wilton Manors homeowners love a good renovation. Remodels can stir up pests: opening walls exposes old roach and rodent harborage, construction debris gives pests shelter, and new additions sometimes leave gaps where the old house meets the new. If you're planning a remodel, an inspection before or right after the work is a smart time to treat wall voids that will soon be closed up again.

After storms and high water

After heavy rain or a tropical storm, low areas near the river can stay wet for days. Fire ants float in clumps, palmetto bugs move up from flooded drains, rats head for higher ground in garages and attics, and mosquitoes hatch about a week later. Our guides to floating fire ants after flooding and rodents after a hurricane explain what to watch for.

The usual suspects in Wilton Manors

White-footed ants in tropical landscaping, palmetto bugs from mulch and drains, roof rats in palms and fruit trees, German roaches in shared-plumbing condos, mosquitoes and no-see-ums along the river, and fleas brought home by pets.
