Family-run, licensed and insured pest control in South Florida.
$50 OFF your first service + FREE inspectionNew customers · No code needed · No expirationIf you're getting mosquitoes biting during the day, in the middle of the afternoon while you water the plants or sit by the pool, you're not imagining it. Most people grew up hearing that mosquitoes come out at dusk. That's true for some of them. But two of the mosquitoes that bother South Florida yards the most are daytime biters, and they're breeding closer to your back door than you'd think.

Which mosquitoes bite in daylight
The Asian tiger mosquito and the yellow fever mosquito both bite during the day. They lay eggs in containers that hold a little water. They're the reason a shady patio can be miserable at 2 p.m.
The southern house mosquito is the one people picture: it bites mainly in the evening and at night. It breeds in dirty, stagnant water, like clogged drains and buckets of old rainwater.
So if you're bitten all day and again after dark, you probably have more than one kind around.
The Asian tiger mosquito in Florida
It's easy to spot: black with white stripes on the legs and body. A few habits explain why it's such a pest around homes:
- It tends to bite low, around ankles and legs.
- It rests in shade close to the ground, under shrubs, decks and patio furniture.
- It usually doesn't fly far from where it hatched, so the source is often in your yard or the one next door.

The yellow fever mosquito
About the same size, with white bands on its legs and a white lyre-shaped mark on its back, the yellow fever mosquito is often found near doors and garages and will come inside. If you're getting bitten in the kitchen in the afternoon, this is a likely suspect. Night biting after dark is more often the southern house mosquito.
Why mosquitoes biting during the day come from your own yard
Daytime biters are container breeders. A bottle cap of water can be enough for some larvae. Look for:
- plant saucers, buckets and kids' toys
- tarps, grill covers and boat covers that hold a puddle
- clogged gutters and the AC drain line
- bromeliads, whose cups hold water; flush the cups with a hose once a week
- birdbaths and pet bowls that sit for days
Dump and scrub containers weekly. Our mosquito breeding sites page has a full checklist.
If you have questions about bites and health, follow the health department's guidance on bite prevention, and use an EPA-registered repellent when you're outdoors.
What we do about daytime biters
Because these mosquitoes rest in shade near where they bite, the treatment goes there. Our mosquito control service is a professional mosquito barrier spray treatment with a backpack fogger, recommended monthly. We treat the shady resting spots around the yard, and we use larvicide on breeding spots around the home only, never ponds, lakes, canals or the Intracoastal. Keep kids and pets off treated areas until dry, and follow your technician's instructions.
To see how long one visit holds up, read how long mosquito treatment lasts. Hosting something outdoors? Here's how far ahead to book a mosquito spray before a party.
Monthly mosquito plans are quoted after the inspection. For plan customers: "If pests come back between visits, so do we, at no extra cost." There are no long-term contracts and no cancellation fees, just a simple service agreement. We're family-run and licensed, with 30+ years in the business, and hablamos español.
