If you're planning a mosquito spray before a party, timing is most of the job. Call too late and the schedule may be full. Treat too early and the yard has had time to fill back up. In South Florida, where a backyard birthday, a graduation cookout or a small wedding can mean three hours outside at dusk, here's the timeline we suggest, and the parts you can handle yourself.

If you want fewer mosquitoes for a birthday party or a backyard wedding, we also do one-time event sprays. Ask for it a few days ahead so it can be on the schedule.

How far in advance to book a mosquito spray before a party

Book it at least a few days ahead, and a week or more is better in spring and fall, when weekends fill up. We'll work out the exact day with you. A day or two before the party usually works well: the treatment has time to dry well before guests arrive, and the yard hasn't had time to fill back up.

When you call or text, tell us:

  • the date and start time
  • where guests will be: the patio, the pool deck, a tent on the grass, the side yard
  • whether there's a pond, canal or lake next to the property

What the event treatment covers

It's a professional mosquito barrier spray treatment with a backpack fogger. We treat the shady resting areas around where your guests will gather: the undersides of shrubs and hedges, shaded fence lines, and the cool, damp spots where mosquitoes wait out the day. We avoid plants in bloom and never spray toward the pool or other water. If you want to see how a visit works step by step, our mosquito treatment process page walks through it.

Keep kids and pets off treated areas until dry, and follow your technician's instructions.

Your week-before checklist

The spray handles where adult mosquitoes rest. You can cut down on new ones by dealing with water, since the common daytime biters here breed in small containers:

  • Dump and scrub anything that holds water: buckets, saucers under pots, kids' toys, tarps over grills, the wheelbarrow.
  • Clear gutters and check the AC drain line.
  • Change the water in birdbaths and pet bowls every couple of days.
  • Store the party supplies (coolers, folding chairs, tubs) upside down until you need them.

Our mosquito breeding sites page has more places to check.

What if it rains?

We don't treat while it's raining, because the treatment needs time to dry on the resting spots. A short afternoon shower is normal here and usually just means a timing shift. If heavy rain is in the forecast, we'll talk with you about moving the date.

On the day of the party

A one-time spray means fewer mosquitoes, not none, so a few simple steps help:

  • Offer repellent near the entrance and follow the health department's guidance on bite prevention.
  • A fan near the table can help, since mosquitoes aren't strong fliers.
  • Keep doors closed so they don't follow guests inside.
  • If people are bitten in the middle of the afternoon, that's normal for South Florida's container breeders. Here's why mosquitoes bite during the day.

After the party

An event spray is a one-time treatment. If the yard is a problem every weekend, ongoing service makes more sense. Our mosquito control service is recommended monthly, and monthly plans are quoted after the inspection. For plan customers: "If pests come back between visits, so do we, at no extra cost." For how long a single treatment holds up, read how long mosquito treatment lasts. We're family-run and licensed, with 30+ years in the business. There are no long-term contracts and no cancellation fees, just a simple service agreement, and hablamos español. More answers on our mosquito FAQ and in our guides.

Party mosquito questions

How long before an event should I spray for mosquitoes?
Book a few days ahead or more. A day or two before the event usually works well, and we'll set the exact day with you.
Can you spray the day of the party?
Ask us. The treatment needs time to dry, so the day before or earlier works best.
Will an event spray get rid of all the mosquitoes?
No. It means fewer mosquitoes, not none. Repellent and dumping standing water help too.
What if it rains the day you're scheduled?
We don't treat in the rain. We'll talk with you about moving the visit.
