Boca Raton's manicured landscaping is beautiful, and it's also ideal for ants. Irrigated mulch beds, clustered palms, hedges planted tight against stucco walls and paver driveways and pool decks give white-footed ants, ghost ants and big-headed ants plenty of places to nest. White-footed ant colonies can spread across many nests in landscaping, palms and wall voids, and they trail along the outside of the house and into kitchens and bathrooms through tiny gaps around windows, doors and plumbing.
Big-headed ants and fire ants nest under pavers and travertine pool decks, pushing sand up between the joints. In gated golf communities, fire ants show up along fairway edges and lake banks after rain. Florida carpenter ants nest in palms and older trees, especially in the established neighborhoods east of I-95, and forage indoors at night.
What We Treat for Ant in Boca Raton
- White-footed ants and ghost ants indoors
- Big-headed ants under pavers and travertine
- Fire ant mounds near the home, fairway edges and lake banks
- Florida carpenter ants in palms and older trees
- Trails along stucco, windows and plumbing
How We Treat It
Pavers and travertine get joint treatment; white-footed ants get baits. Inside, white-footed and ghost ants get baits placed along the trails we find near windows, sinks and outlets. Outside, we treat paver and travertine joints, planter beds around the pool, the slab edge and the base of queen palms. Fire ant mounds on golf-course and lake lots get direct treatment, and carpenter ants in older east-side trees are traced to the nest. Potted palms on Boca lanais are checked for white-footed ant nests.
Pavers, Travertine and Pool Decks
Paver driveways and travertine pool decks are among the biggest ant hot spots in Boca. We treat the joints and edges where sand is being pushed up, and the planter beds around the pool. Over time, ant activity can loosen pavers, so treating early protects the deck as well as your comfort. Planters and potted palms on the lanai are checked too, since white-footed ants often nest in them. Pavers along walkways too.
Working With Your Landscaper
In many Boca communities, a landscaper or the HOA handles the yard. We'll tell you what to ask them to change, like pulling mulch a few inches off the foundation, trimming hedges and palms away from the walls and adjusting sprinklers that spray the house. Those small changes make baits work faster and keep trails from coming back. Ant activity climbs with the first storms of the rainy season. Treating the perimeter before the wet season, and baiting quickly when a trail appears, keeps small problems from turning into large colonies in the walls. Fix leaks under sinks.
What to Expect on Your First Visit
We identify the ant first. Pavers, travertine and planters get a close look, and we'll tell you what to ask your landscaper to change. Travertine around fountains and courtyard planters is a frequent nest site we treat too.
