Pro-Spray's ant control in West Park, FL treats ghost ants, fire ants, carpenter ants and other ants with a bait-first approach inside and a targeted treatment around the outside of the house.

Ants here are a year-round problem that gets worse when the summer rains arrive. Older homes and mature yards give ants plenty of places to nest: under leaf litter and mulch, in cracks in old driveways and walkways, inside tree hollows and palms and along slab edges that have settled over the years. When storms flood those nests, colonies move inside, often into kitchens and bathrooms.

The common ants we find include ghost ants and other small sweet-loving ants indoors, big-headed ants that push dirt up through cracks in concrete, fire ants that build mounds in yards and beside walkways and fences, and Florida carpenter ants that nest in trees or damp wood and come inside to forage at night. Older homes often have gaps around windows, doors and plumbing lines that let ant trails come right in.

How we treat it

First we identify the ant, because each species needs a different approach. For ghost ants and similar species, spraying the trail can split the colony, so we use baits that workers carry back to the nest, plus targeted treatment where trails come in. Outside, we treat ant trails and nests along the foundation, in mulch beds, in cracks in old concrete and at the base of trees and palms where colonies nest. This is ant treatment, not plant care: we don't treat the plants themselves. Fire ant mounds near the house, walkways and slab edges are treated directly, mound by mound. We'll also point out leaf litter, vines and branches touching the house that give ants a bridge inside.

Old concrete and big trees

Cracked walkways and driveways are common in older neighborhoods here, and they're perfect nesting spots for big-headed ants. Big shade trees with hollow spots or old pruning wounds are a favorite for carpenter ants. We look at both, and if carpenter ants are coming in at night, we'll check the trees closest to the house to find the source.

Which ants show up when

Ghost ants and other small indoor ants are most noticeable in summer, when heat and heavy rain drive them inside for food and dry ground. Fire ant mounds tend to pop up in yards and along walkways a day or two after a big storm, as colonies rebuild above the waterline. Big-headed ants are busy most of the year along cracked concrete and slabs, and you'll often notice them by the little piles of dirt they leave behind. Carpenter ants are mostly seen at night, especially in late spring and summer, when winged swarmers sometimes show up indoors near lights. Knowing which one you have, and when it's most active, helps us time treatments so they work with the colony's habits instead of against them.

Keeping ants out between visits

Wipe counters and keep sweet foods, fruit and pet food sealed. Fix leaky faucets and AC drip lines, since moisture draws ants. Outside, rake leaf litter away from the house, keep mulch thin and trim shrubs and vines away from the walls. If you see winged ants inside, snap a photo and send it to us so we can identify them.

Ant control in West Park, FL: FAQs

Why do ants come inside after it rains in West Park?
Heavy summer rain floods nests under mulch, leaf litter and slab edges, so colonies move to dry ground, often your kitchen or bathroom. We bait the trails inside and treat where they come in, so the colony doesn't just move to the next room.
Why do ants come up through the cracks in my driveway?
Those are usually big-headed ants or fire ants nesting under the concrete. We treat the cracks and edges to knock back the colony.
I see big black ants in my kitchen at night. What are they?
Large ants at night are often Florida carpenter ants foraging from a nest in a nearby tree or damp wood. We follow the trail to the nest and treat the ants, around the house and where they're nesting.
Will one treatment get rid of my ants?
Some ant problems clear up after one visit, but many species need follow-up, especially indoor ants with large colonies. Regular service helps keep them from coming back.
Are ants covered by your quarterly plan?
Yes. Ants are one of the household pests covered by our $125 quarterly plan, about $42 a month. New customers get $50 off the first service plus a FREE inspection.
