This South Florida pest calendar starts with the honest answer: there's no bug-free season here. There are just different pests at different times. The rainy months bring the most mosquitoes and outdoor roaches, cool nights push roof rats toward the attic, and spring brings carpenter bees and the first lovebug flight. Here's what to watch for each month in Broward, Miami-Dade and south Palm Beach, and one thing you can do about it.

What drives the calendar

  • Rainy season (May to October). Rain fills containers, and heat speeds everything up. Mosquitoes, no-see-ums, house flies and outdoor roaches all climb.
  • Dry season (roughly November to April). Fewer mosquitoes, but they don't disappear. Cool fronts and dry spells push some pests indoors.
  • Storms and floods. Water pushes fire ants and other ground pests up and out. See pests after a flood.
  • Snowbird season. Homes sit closed for months and pests explore without anyone noticing. See the back-for-the-season checklist.

The year-round pests

Some pests don't follow the calendar at all:

  • German roaches live indoors, so they breed all year.
  • Ghost ants trail across kitchen counters in every month.
  • Fleas keep going indoors year-round, with pets or without.
  • Bed bugs travel with people, not the weather.
  • Drain flies come from the film inside drains, any time of year.

Mosquitoes: the longest season

Mosquitoes are the one pest people expect to be seasonal, and here they aren't. Numbers climb through the rainy season and drop off in the dry months, but they still bite in November and after any warm rain. Our rainy season mosquito guide explains the peak. Our mosquito service is a professional mosquito barrier spray treatment with a backpack fogger, recommended monthly, especially in the rainy season, and we use larvicide on breeding spots around the home.

Spring and fall regulars

  • Carpenter bees are around most of the year here. Nest-drilling picks up from late winter into spring, often with a second round in summer, so look for round holes in wood. See the carpenter bee page.
  • Lovebugs have two flights, late April to May and late August to September. See the lovebug page.
  • Spiny orb-weavers are most noticeable in fall and winter. See the spiny orb-weaver page.

Why a year-round plan

Because something is always active, regular service works better than chasing each season. Our general pest plan is $125 per quarter, about $42 a month, and monthly or custom schedules are quoted after the inspection. For plan customers: "If pests come back between visits, so do we, at no extra cost." There are no long-term contracts and no cancellation fees, just a simple service agreement. We're family-run and licensed, with 30+ years in the business, and hablamos español.
