How often should you get pest control in Florida? For most homes in Broward, Miami-Dade and southern Palm Beach, every three months is the right rhythm for general pests like roaches, ants and spiders. Mosquitoes are different. They breed so fast after rain that they need a monthly visit to stay ahead. And if you've already got an active problem, like German roaches in the kitchen, rodents in the attic or bed bugs, you need a treatment plan first and a regular schedule after.

That's the short answer. The rest of this post is about which of those fits your house.

Why pest control here never really takes a season off

Up north, a hard freeze knocks a lot of insects back for months. We don't get one. A South Florida "winter" might bring a few cool mornings, and then it's back in the 80s by the weekend. Roaches, ants and spiders stay active all year, and the heavy summer rain pushes palmetto bugs and ants out of the ground and toward the house.

So the question isn't whether you need pest control in the winter. It's how much attention each part of the year needs. Our rainy-season mosquito guide gets into how the wet months change things outside.

Quarterly vs monthly pest control: which one do you need?

Quarterly works for most houses. If you see the occasional palmetto bug after a storm or ants on the counter now and then, four visits a year is usually enough. Each one is a chance to re-treat the outside of the home, check entry points and handle anything new before it settles in. Our pest control page explains what a regular visit includes.

Monthly makes sense when:

  • mosquitoes are the main complaint (our mosquito control service is built around monthly visits, and only monthly mosquito plans include larval traps, which use a growth regulator, like birth control for insects)
  • the house backs onto a canal, a preserve or heavy landscaping
  • you run a home business, a rental or anything where one roach sighting is one too many
  • you're coming off an active problem and want closer follow-up for a while

A custom schedule fits the in-between cases. Seasonal owners, landlords and hosts often want visits lined up with when they're in town or when the property turns over. We can build that around you.

How often should you spray for bugs if you have an active problem?

An active infestation is its own thing. German roaches, for example, breed indoors and hide their egg cases where sprays don't reach, so one visit rarely ends it. With rodents, we set traps and seal the gaps rodents are using with exclusion work, to help keep them from getting back in. Inside the home, that means snap traps only. Bed bugs need a treatment plan of their own.

In those cases we set the follow-up schedule based on what we find at the inspection, and we stay on it until activity is under control. After that, most homes go on a regular plan to keep it from starting over.

What "between visits" means

Pests don't read the calendar. If you're on a plan and see a problem between scheduled visits, you call. For plan customers: "If pests come back between visits, so do we, at no extra cost."

What it costs

Our general pest plan is $125 per quarter, which works out to about $42 a month. Monthly plans and custom schedules are priced after your FREE inspection, because they depend on the property and what's going on. There are no long-term contracts and no cancellation fees, just a simple service agreement. New customers also get $50 off the first service. See plans and pricing for the details.

Signs your schedule isn't keeping up

  • You're seeing roaches in daylight.
  • Ants come back within a few weeks of every visit.
  • There are droppings in the garage or noises in the attic at night.
  • You can't sit outside in the evening without getting bitten.

Any of those is worth a call. Sometimes it means more frequent service, and sometimes it just means a spot we haven't found yet.

How-often FAQs

Do you really need quarterly pest control?
For most South Florida homes, yes. Without a freeze to knock pests back, roaches, ants and spiders stay active all year. Quarterly service keeps the outside of the home treated and gives you four chances a year to catch something early.
Is a monthly pest control plan worth it?
It is for mosquitoes, homes next to water or heavy landscaping, and properties where even one pest is a problem, like rentals. For a typical house with the occasional bug, quarterly is usually enough. We'll tell you honestly which fits after the inspection.
What are the worst months for bugs in Florida?
The rainy season, roughly late spring into fall, is the busiest. Mosquitoes, ants and palmetto bugs all pick up when it's hot and wet. Indoor pests like German roaches don't follow the weather at all, and roof rats often head indoors when the first cool fronts come through.
How much should pest control cost per month in Florida?
We can only speak for ourselves. Our general pest plan is $125 per quarter, about $42 a month. Monthly and custom plans are quoted after a FREE inspection, and new customers get $50 off the first service.
Do bugs come out after the exterminator sprays?
Often, yes, for a little while. Treatment flushes pests out of the places they hide, so seeing a few more roaches or ants right after a visit usually means it's working. If you're still seeing a lot after a few weeks, call us.
